Mary Arthur

Click here for a larger version of this pictureMary Arthur has served as the Symphonic Band’s Business Manager and Executive Secretary since 1976. She brings to her work with the Band a background as a church secretary and volunteer, along with a love of music and community bands that began as a young person listening to and eventually performing with the American Legion Band in her home town of Oconomowoc WI. (It is no coincidence that that venerable organization was founded and managed by her uncle, Arthur Rhodee, and for many decades was managed by her first cousin, Ken Rhodee.)

Mary has been the Band’s piccolo player since its reorganization in 1974. She studied flute with Eldrich Meyer at the Wisconsin Conservatory in Milwaukee and Donald Berglund at St. Olaf College, and earned an Associate of Arts degree at UW-Fond du Lac.

Since the death of her husband, Jim, in 2007, Mary continues to serve as office manager and bookkeeper for his municipal/civil engineering firm, J. E. Arthur and Associates. The company’s spacious facilities on Prairie Road have also served the Band’s various office and storage needs since Mary’s appointment as Manager. Mary's community involvements include serving as Congregation and Council President at Church of Our Saviour Ev. Lutheran (ELCA) in Fond du Lac.

Mary has two daughters and four grandchildren, including Ian Arthur, a percussionist in the Symphonic Band.  A self-professed computer nut, Mary does all of the Band’s desktop publishing layouts and promotional literature as part of her management duties. You can reach her by email at marthur@fdlsymphonicband.org
