STRUCTURE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Band is organized as an independent non-profit Wisconsin Corporation with
501(c)(3) tax-exempt status. It is governed by a Board of Directors comprised of
seven members elected from the Band’s membership and up to five additional
members appointed at large. Board terms are for three years with no limit on
terms. The Board annually elects from its membership a President, Vice
President, and Secretary.
The Board sets and approves policy and budget. It appoints and annually
reviews the positions of Music Director, Business Manager, and Treasurer. Other
positions approved by the Board but not specified in the by-laws include
Librarian, Administrative Assistant, Equipment Manager, and assistant
conductors.
Day-to-day management rests with the Music Director, Business Manager and
Treasurer, who receive annual stipends for their services. Administration is
further assisted by an informal Board of Advisors which meets three or more
times a year and consults with the Band’s management in areas such as
financial planning and special projects. The Advisors are leaders of the local
business/professional community.
